My birth year of 1961 puts me by definition as either part of the Baby Boomers or the Generation X demographic, with 1960-64 (confusingly!) included in both.
No matter what the title, these two generational groups share many commonalities. Individuals have lived long enough to have learned quite a bit and witnessed great changes in music, technology and the world around us. At the same time, we are of the age where our children are grown and having children, but our parents are elderly and now needing our assistance. Some of the leading edge Baby Boomers, 1946 – 1955, are great-grandparents and, just might be finding themselves in need of that assistance themselves.
Does any of this sound like you?
Are you looking for solutions that make life generally easier or more satisfying?
If there’s one thing that sums up our life experience, it is that “The Ride Ain’t Free”.
I think we can agree that we understand that it’s necessary to work for anything worth having, that it won’t be handed to us, that life can be equally as hard as it is beautiful.
We know a few more things too…
This site is for us, the Boomers and Generation X’ers. It has been created with the intent to be helpful in situations where perhaps you feel overwhelmed, want to share, or are looking for information. In other words, a place for you in your quest to reach your goal of ‘Enjoying your Whole Life’
Off the top of my head, I could see topics including:
- Elder care and resources
- Technology that frees up time, connects us, or makes life easier
- Tips, including photography, organizing and journaling, for capturing and preserving memories, reaching goals, and creating a legacy for future generations
- Conversations about living a healthy, active lifestyle, enjoying life and feeling great
Though we might cover a wide range even beyond this, this is NOT a place for getting sidelined by political debates. There are many other places where those posts would be more appropriate.
I had the idea for this site some years ago, inspired by the stories told to me over and over again in my health-caregiver and professional photography careers. I recognized a need for more resources for people suddenly facing aging parent needs. Many in my age group are experiencing serious issues in their own aging process too, while I fortunately remain very healthy. I have a tendency to be more lax about exercise and excited about sugary foods – can you say chocolate and pastries?!? – than I should be, and I’ve been working on that. I’d like to enter my elder years as healthy as possible. On the business side, I’ve rubbed elbows daily for 30+ years with others seeking to make their own dream professional life a reality. The challenges they face with finding the right clients, organizational skills and keeping up with technology have been some of my own issues along the way.
All of this has been percolating in the back of my mind. I created the site, but then held off… because, well, I was busy running a business, I don’t have a completed chart or concrete site plan, and don’t consider myself an expert on any of this by any means. But, I’ve learned a thing or two along the way that I’m happy to share, and will bring in experts or point you in a helpful direction wherever I can.
Sometimes, to start, you’ve just got to get started.
I’m looking forward to this journey.
As stated in the Bruce Springsteen song ‘Thunder Road’, “the door is open, but the ride it ain’t free”. If I can help you recognize the doors standing open for you and what steps you need to take to be able to ultimately reach YOUR definition of your Whole Life, then I will have reached MY goal.
Warmly,
Bonnie St.Pierre
